The archive footage includes film of locomotives such as Gresley's pi 2 8 2, North eastern and Great Northern Atlantics and 4 4 0s and Great Eastern 'Hikers'.


DISC 2 THE INDUSTRIAL HEARTLAND

In this programme we examine the railways that served the midlands and industrial north west, from the London and North Western railway through the Lancashire, Yorkshire and Midland to the LMS.


DISC 3 COMMUTERS AND HOLIDAYS

The Southern part of England was dominated by two great railway systems, the Great Western Railway and those lines which came together to form the Southern Railway. This programme examines the way these railways affected the lives of the people who used them and those who continue to use the same lines.


DISC 4 VALLEYS AND MOUNTAINS

Scotland and Wales have their own peculiar railway stories and this programme gives an overall look at each. From historical archive footage from the 1930s right up to 1990s, this DVD covers all the key trains that were so characteristic of their countries.
