Our team will ensure COVID safe hygiene measures are in place at all times, and that social distancing is maintained throughout our stores;

  • Daily cleaning and disinfecting with hospital grade product is in place in our stores;

  • QR code check-in to support contact tracing is available at store for our customers

  • The number of customers in store at any time will be kept at a safe capacity and entry to the store, if store capacity is reached a 1 in, 1 out rule will apply;

  • Sanitiser stations are at the front of all stores and in service areas. Trolley wipes are available to wipe down your trolley;

  • COVID Marshals are in store to maintain COVID safe measures

  • To keep our community safe, masks will now be mandatory in all in the greater Sydney area, as listed above, and remain strongly encouraged for team and customers in all other stores until further notice;

  • Team members are instructed not to come to work if they are unwell, or have been around someone who is unwell

  • Plexiglass screens are in place at our checkouts and service desks, and 1.5-metre social distancing guides are located throughout the stores

COVID-19 Customer Notice

Perth and Peel Restrictions Update - Friday 7th May

The WA State Government has eased restrictions in the Perth and Peel areas from 12.01am Saturday, 8 May. Masks will no longer be mandatory in all indoor settings.
Masks are only required in the following settings

  • Public transport
  • Hospitals
  • Aged care and disability facilities
  • Large events with more than 1,000 people.

Greater Sydney (Incl. Wollongong, Central Coast and Blue Mountains) Masks Update - Thursday 6th May, 5:00pm (AEST))

The New South Wales government has announced that masks will be mandatory for people in the Greater Sydney Region (including Wollongong, Central Coast and Blue Mountains) from midday today, 6th May (enforceable from 5pm) until 12.01am Monday 10th May (unless an exemption applies).


Masks are required in all public indoor venues including retail venues throughout Greater Sydney. 

Perth and Peel Restrictions Update - Friday 30th April, 2:00pm (AEST))

The WA State Government has eased restrictions in the Perth and Peel areas from 12.01am Saturday, 1 May. However, mandatory masks and certain other requirements will remain until 12.01am Saturday 8 May (unless an exemption applies).  

Masks are required indoors, on public transport and outdoors where social distancing can’t be maintained. This includes shopping centres and BIG W Stores throughout the Perth and Peel Area.

Perth and Lockdown Lifted - Monday 26 April, 2021. 6:30pm AEST.

The WA State Government has confirmed that the 3 Day lockdown for Perth and Peel areas will be lifted from 12:01am tomorrow 27/04/21. However, mandatory masks and certain other requirements will remain for the next 4 days, until 12:01am Saturday 01/05/21.

The government has confirmed that masks will continue to be mandatory for people in the Perth and Peel regions until at least Saturday 01/05/21 (unless an exemption applies). Masks are required indoors, outdoors and on public transport. This includes shopping centres and BIG W Stores throughout the Perth and Peel Area. This also applies to residents who were previously in Perth and Peel since 07/04/21.

Perth and Peel Lockdown - Friday 23 April, 2021. 7:30pm (AEST)

The Western Australian Government today announced a 3 Day lockdown for the Perth and Peel areas to come into effect from midnight tonight 23/04/21 to midnight Monday 26/04/21. BIG W Stores will continue to be an essential service, and open to customers. 


The Western Australian Government has determined that masks are mandatory for people in the Perth and Peel areas whenever they leave their home from 6pm local time Friday 23/04/21. This also applies to residents who were previously in Perth and Peel since 07/04/21.

Government Restrictions Easing - Queensland - Wednesday 14 April, 2021

The Queensland Government has today announced that due to the low levels of community transmission of COVID, masks will no longer be required in indoor locations including shopping centres and BIG W stores throughout Queensland from 6am on Thursday 15/04/21. While not mandatory, you are strongly encouraged to carry a mask with you at all times when you leave home and worn where you can’t socially distance yourself.

Lockdown lifted for Greater Brisbane Area - Friday 1 April, 2021

The QLD State Government has confirmed that the 3 Day lockdown for the Greater Brisbane Area will be lifted from 12pm today Thursday 01/04/21

The government has confirmed that masks will continue to be mandatory for people in all of Queensland until at least Thursday 15/04/21 (unless an exemption applies). Masks are required in indoor locations including shopping centres and retail environments throughout QLD and outdoor areas if you can’t physically distance. 

Greater Brisbane - COVID-19 Customer Notice - Monday 29 March, 2021. 5:00pm (AEDT)

Today, the Queensland Government today announced a 3 day lockdown for the Greater Brisbane area to come into effect from 5pm local time Monday 29/03/21 to 5pm Thursday 01/04/21. The affected areas include Brisbane, Logan, Ipswich, Moreton, and Redlands LGAs and includes the following BIG W stores:

Victoria - COVID-19 Customer Notice - Friday 12 February, 2021. 6:00pm (AEDT)

The Victorian Government today announced a 5 day lockdown for all of Victoria to come into effect from 11.59pm Friday 12/02/21 to 11.59pm Wednesday 17/02/21.

What this means for BIG W Stores in Victoria

The Victorian Government has advised that all 31 of our stores in Victoria (including regional stores) will temporarily close to the public until 11:59pm Wednesday 17 February.

Customers can continue to shop online and choose contactless Pick up at the front of every store, Direct to boot (with some exceptions due to traffic management restrictions) and home delivery services. Product limits will apply for the duration of the lockdown and our in store teams will continue to work with all COVID safe measures in place. We look forward to welcoming our Victorian customers back soon.

Update on our stores in WA - Friday 5 February, 2021. 6:00pm (AEDT)

The WA Government has confirmed that restrictions will ease from 6pm (AWST) Friday 5th February.

The Government has also confirmed that masks will continue to be mandatory for people in the Perth and Peel area when in public and while at work unless a Government exemption applies, until at least 12.01am Sunday 14 February. This applies to indoor settings including shopping centres and supermarkets.

An update for our WA customers:

  • Our Midlands and Ellenbrook BIG W stores have been given permission to reopen immediately to help the communities that have had to evacuate due to bushfires.
  • Our remaining stores will be allowed to reopen for trading from 6pm on 5th February (AWST), maintaining COVID safe measures throughout the store.
  • Contactless Pick up, Drive up and Lay-by services will resume on Saturday 6 February.
  • All in-store product limits will remain in place and will be reviewed on Monday 8th February.

Update on our stores in WA - Monday 1 February, 2021. 6:00pm (AEDT)

Following an update from the Western Australian Government regarding the five day lockdown for the Perth metropolitan area and the Peel and South West regions, from Tuesday 2nd February to 6pm Friday 5th February, all BIG W stores in WA will temporarily close until restrictions have eased, however we remain open online as usual.

When shopping online, customers can choose contactless home delivery and any Pick up orders placed during this time will be held until our stores reopen.

For any layby payments, rest assured they will be put on hold and resume when restrictions have been lifted. Thank you for your support and patience.

The safety of our customers and team is our first priority. Following the QLD Government's announcement we are advising our customers that the wearing of face masks will be mandatory for people shopping in BIG W stores in the Greater Brisbane Area (including Brisbane, Logan, Ipswich, Moreton and Redlands) from 6pm tonight, Friday 8 January, until 6pm Monday 11 January.

This announcement effects customers in the following stores:

Macarthur, Carindale, Mt Gravatt, Booval, Brookside, Chermside, Taigum, Ommaney, Northlakes, Strathpine, Underwood, Capalaba, Redbank, Browns Plains, Beenleigh, Loganholme, Springfield and Morayfield

Greater Sydney - COVID-19 Customer Notice - Saturday 2 January, 2021. 5:30pm (AEDT)

The safety of our customers and team is our first priority. Following the NSW Government's announcement, we are advising our customers that the wearing of face masks will be mandatory for people shopping in BIG W stores in the Greater Sydney Area (including Wollongong, Blue Mountains and Central Coast) from 11.59pm on Saturday, 2 January 2021.

Please note, the NSW Government announced compliance will start from Monday, 4 January 2021 with $200 on the spot fines for individuals for non-compliance of the measures put in place for Greater Sydney - see here for more details.

This announcement effects customers in the following stores:

Bankstown, Blacktown Westpoint, Bonnyrigg, Campbelltown, Campsie, Carnes Hill, Dapto, Erina, Hurstville, Katoomba, Liverpool, Macquarie, Merrylands, Miranda, Menai, Narellan, Pagewood, Penrith, Plumpton, Richmond, Rockdale, Rouse Hill, Top Ryde, Tuggerah, Warrawong, Warringah Mall, Wetherill Park and Winston Hills.

Victoria - COVID-19 Customer Notice - Thursday 31 December, 2020. (AEDT)

In response to several cases of community transmission in Victoria, the Victorian Government has announced from 5pm on 31 December 2020 that in Victoria you must wear a fitted face mask when you are in public indoor spaces unless you have a lawful reason not to. This includes when visiting places such as shopping centres, supermarkets, retail outlets and indoor markets. This applies to everyone in the state of Victoria from the time they leave their homes.

There are limited exceptions to this mandatory requirement. More specific details on these rules can be found on the DHHS website.
