When are NSW stores reopening?

BIG W stores in NSW will fully reopen on Monday 11 October as per the NSW Government roadmap. Opening hours will be dependent on the store. You can check opening times here: https://www.bigw.com.au/store-finder.

Are stores reopening to all departments on 11 October or just for essential items?

We’re pleased to confirm that yes, our stores will reopen in full, for customers to shop in all departments.

Must I be fully vaccinated to shop in store from Monday 11 October? How will you manage this?

Yes, the NSW Government requires customers to be fully vaccinated or have a medical contraindication certificate in order to enter and shop safely in our stores. You will be required to provide proof of having both vaccination shots or a medical contraindication certificate, and to use the NSW QR check in app when visiting our stores. We will support this by having signage at the front of the store stating the requirements and providing the QR code, and having a team member check customers’ vaccination status on entry.

You can provide proof of vaccination status via the Service NSW app (when this becomes available), Medicare app, the digital wallet on your smartphone or a printed copy of  your digital record certificate or immunisation record.

Will you refuse me entry from Monday 11 October if I can’t prove that I am fully vaccinated or have a medical contraindication certificate?

The NSW Government Roadmap indicates that customers and team members need to take all reasonable care to get vaccinated, and therefore only double vaccinated customers will be permitted to shop in store, please see here for more details.

Are BIG W team members required to be vaccinated to return to work?

Our teams are required to follow the vaccination requirements as detailed in the NSW Government Roadmap.

What if I can’t be vaccinated? Am I able to shop in store?

If you are not yet fully vaccinated you can continue to shop with us online at bigw.com.au and enjoy the convenience of home delivery as well as our free Contactless Pick Up and Direct to Boot services.

I’m unvaccinated but want to pay for and collect my in store lay-by. Can I?

No, the NSW Government requires customers to be fully vaccinated or have a medical contraindication certificate in order to enter and shop safely in our stores. This includes making lay-by payments in store and picking up lay-bys.

How will you keep it safe for customers in store if there are crowds?

Your health and safety remains our top priority so please be assured that we have strict COVID safe protocols in place and following Government guidelines, we will ensure we maintain 1 person per 4sqm, with limits on customers shopping in store at one time.

How will you keep customers safe once stores reopen - what measures are in place?

We will be acting in accordance with the NSW Government health and safety advice, including mandatory QR check-ins, maintaining 1 person per 4sqm, limiting the number of customers in stores, providing sanitiser stations and regular cleaning of trolleys.

Will BIG W have security to help the team and customers?

Yes, BIG W will have security guards and COVID marshalls at the front of store from Monday 11 October to help provide a quick and easy check in experience.

Why do I need to be fully vaccinated to shop at BIG W, but not Woolworths?

In the NSW Government Roadmap, they have indicated that customers will not be able to shop in non-critical retail stores unless they are fully vaccinated or have a medical contraindication certificate. BIG W is considered to be non-critical retail, whereas Woolworths Supermarkets is considered critical retail. In line with the NSW Government’s Health orders, customers will need to be fully vaccinated or have a medical contraindication certificate to shop in store.

Why could I shop for essential items in store previously unvaccinated, but now I have to be fully vaccinated?

Select BIG W stores that have previously been open for essential items only no longer fall under the ‘critical retail’ classification from Monday 11 October. Therefore, we need to comply with the NSW Government Roadmap which requires that all customers over the age of 16 are fully vaccinated or have a medical contraindication certificate in order to enter and shop safely in our stores.
