29 July 2021 - Greater Sydney Lockdown Update Incl. Wollongong, Central Coast and Blue Mountains

The NSW Government has announced the current lockdown has been extended by a further four weeks until Saturday, 28th August for Greater Sydney (including Greater Sydney, Central Coast, Blue Mountains, Shellharbour and Wollongong). 

This means our 28 BIG W stores in Greater Sydney will continue to trade online only and remain temporarily closed to the public until Saturday 28th August. We understand that this is a challenging time for our customers, team and community. We are here to provide safe and convenient ways to help you shop for your everyday family essentials including Pick up, Direct to Boot and home delivery service.

27 July 2021 - Lockdown Lifted for Regional NSW - Orange, Blayney and Cabonne LGAs

The NSW Government has confirmed that the lockdown for Orange, Blayney and Cabonne LGAs will be lifted from 12.01am, Wednesday, 28th July 2021.

The NSW Government has also confirmed that masks will continue to be mandatory in these areas, unless you have a lawful exemption. 

You can continue to shop safely in store and online at BIG W Orange. As a responsible retailer, we have very high standards of cleaning and hygiene in place to keep our team, customers and communities safe.

 

20 July 2021 - Regional NSW

The NSW Government has announced a one-week lockdown for Orange, Balyney and Cabonne LGAs from 12.01am Wednesday 21st July to 12.01am Wednesday 28th July. BIG W Orange will continue to be open to customers in store and online with COVID safe measures in place. 

 

17 July 2021 - Greater Sydney Lockdown Update Incl. Wollongong, Central Coast and Blue Mountains

The New South Wales Government has announced that restrictions in the Greater Sydney area have now moved to Level 4 and therefore from 11:59 on Saturday 17 July until 11:59pm Friday 30th July, all BIG W stores in the Greater Sydney area (including Greater Sydney, Central Coast, Blue Mountains, Shellharbour and Wollongong) will temporarily close to the public and open only for Pick up, Home Delivery and Direct to boot.

These restrictions apply to the following BIG W stores:

15 July 2021 - Greater Sydney Lockdown Update Incl. Wollongong, Central Coast and Blue Mountains

The New South Wales Government has announced the current lockdown has been extended by a further 14 days until 11:59pm Friday 30th July for Greater Sydney (including Greater Sydney, Central Coast, Blue Mountains, Shellharbour and Wollongong. Current restrictions for regional and rural NSW are also extended for 14 days.
BIG W continues to be an essential service and remains open to serving our community safely in store and online over this uncertain time.


9 July 2021 - Covid Restriction Updates

The NSW Government has today announced further restrictions effective from 5pm today due to the recent increases in cases of community transmission of COVID. These restrictions are in addition to all existing restrictions for the Greater Sydney area including Blue Mountains, Wollongong, Central Coast, Shellharbour. 

From 5pm today (Friday, 9 July) the following additional restrictions will be in place:
 - Outdoor public gatherings limited to two people (excluding members of the same household);
 - People must stay in their Local Government Area or within 10kms of home for exercise and outdoor recreation, with no carpooling between non-household members;
 - Browsing in shops is prohibited, plus only one person per household, per day may leave the home for shopping.

Currently, the NSW Government has deemed BIG W an essential service, which means our stores will remain open in the areas of Greater Sydney, with COVID safe measures in place. We will continue to be guided by Government advice and adhere to all COVID safe measures including social distancing, masks, QR code check in, proactive cleaning and Covid Marshals.

27 June 2021 - NSW extension to Shellharbour region

Further to our communications on Saturday, the New South Wales Government announced the current stay-at-home orders for Greater Sydney, including the Blue Mountains, Central Coast, and Wollongong will also include Shellharbour until 11.59pm on Friday, 9 July 2021.

BIG W does not have any stores in the Shellharbour area. We wish for our team and customers living in this area to stay safe.


27 June 2021 - Greater Sydney Lockdown Update Incl. Wollongong, Central Coast and Blue Mountains

The NSW Government today announced a lockdown for Greater Sydney (including Greater Sydney, Central Coast, Blue Mountains and Wollongong) will be in place from 6:00pm today, Saturday 26th of June to 11:59pm Friday 9th July. This means that people who live or work in those areas may only leave home for specified reasons which include essential shopping, outdoor exercise,  care or compassionate reasons, medical reasons (including to get a COVID vaccination), or if they cannot work from home.

The New South Wales Government has advised that all our stores in NSW (including regional stores) will remain open to the public.


25 June 2021 - NSW Stay at Home Order

The NSW Government today announced that a stay at home order for the City of Sydney, Waverley, Randwick, and Woollahra local government areas (LGAs) will be in place from 11:59pm Friday 25/06 until at least 11:59pm Friday 02/07.

This means people who live or work in these areas may only leave home for specified reasons which include essential shopping, outdoor exercise, care or compassionate reasons, medical reasons (including receiving a COVID vaccination), or if they are essential workers who cannot work from home.

Please closely monitor and follow the advice on the NSW Government website.


22 June 2021 - Greater Sydney Masks Mandate

The New South Wales government announced today that due to the increase in COVID cases, the current mask requirements for Greater Sydney will be expanded and extended until 12:01am on Thursday 1 July 2021.

The revised government requirements are from 4pm today:

 - Masks are mandatory on public transport in Greater Sydney, Blue Mountains, Wollongong and Shellharbour council areas
 - Masks are mandatory in all indoor public venues (including retail) in Greater Sydney, Blue Mountains, Wollongong and Shellharbour council areas. All team members, customers, visitors and contractors in the below stores must wear a mask unless they are exempt:

27 July 2021 - Lockdown Restrictions lifted in Victoria

The Victorian Government has confirmed that the current lockdown restrictions for Victoria will be lifted from 11:59pm, Tuesday 27th July 2021. We are pleased to advise that all of our stores in Victoria will reopen tomorrow, 28th July, 2021.

In line with government advice to keep everyone safe, the following restrictions will apply in our Victorian stores:  

  • Limits remain at 1 person per 4sqm
  • Masks remain mandatory in all indoor areas and outdoors where 1.5m distancing cannot be maintained, and unless a valid exemption applies. 
  • It is mandatory to check in to our stores using the Service VIC QR Code App. QR Codes are critical for contact tracing and we will continue to follow government guidelines to keep our team, customers and communities safe.  

We are pleased to reopen our stores to the public and we thank you for your ongoing patience and support as together we do all we can to keep everyone safe.
 

20 July 2021 - Lockdown extended for Victoria

The Victorian Government has announced the current lockdown has been extended by a further 7 days until 11:59pm Tuesday, 27th July for Victoria with all current restrictions remaining in place. The Government has advised that all 29 of our BIG W stores in Victoria will remain closed to the public during lockdown, however we will continue to be open online only.

16 July 2021 - Victoria State Lockdown

The Victorian Government has announced a 5 day lockdown for all of Victoria to come into effect from 11:59pm on Thursday, 15th July to 11:59pm Tuesday, 20th July 2021.

The Government has advised that all 29 of our BIG W stores in Victoria will be open online only and stores will temporarily close to the public during the lockdown period.

9 June 2021 - Victoria Restrictions update

The Victorian Government has confirmed that the current lockdown restrictions for Metropolitan Melbourne will be eased as planned from 11.59pm Thursday 10/06/21.

Last week our 9 regional stores in Victoria re-opened and now we are pleased that the Victorian Government has advised that all 20 stores in Metro Melbourne can also re-open from Friday 11 June 2021.  

In line with government advice to keep everyone safe, the following restrictions will apply in our Victorian stores:  Limits remain at 1 person per 4sqm

29 July 2021 - QLD Face Masks Extension

Today, the Government has announced that masks will continue to be mandatory for a further 7 days for people in the Brisbane, Moreton Bay, Noosa, Sunshine Coast, Ipswich, Logan, Redlands, Gold Coast, Lockyer Valley, Scenic Rim and Somerset LGAs (store list) until 6am AEST Friday 6th August.

  • Masks are mandatory in indoor spaces such as shopping centres, public transport, hospitals, aged care facilities, churches and workplaces where you can’t physically distance.
  • All customers in these areas must wear a mask unless they are exempt.

 

22 July 2021 - South East QLD Face Masks and restrictions

2 July 2021 - Lockdown Lifted for South East Queensland, but extended for Brisbane and Moreton Bay

The QLD Government has confirmed that the 3 day lockdown for South East Queensland (Noosa, Sunshine Coast, Ipswich, Logan, Redlands, Gold Coast, Lockyer Valley, Scenic Rim, Somerset and Townsville LGAs) will be lifted from 6pm today, Friday 2nd July. Face mask wearing and gathering restrictions will continue to apply in these areas.

Our team will ensure COVID safe hygiene measures are in place at all times, and that social distancing is maintained throughout our stores;
Brisbane and Moreton Bay LGAs s (Mt Ommaney, Macarthur, Mt Gravatt, Carindale, Brookside, Taigum, Chermside, Northlakes, Strathpine and Morayfield) will continue the lockdown for another 24 hours and will continue to operate under Level 3 restrictions.
 

29 June 2021 - South East Queensland Lockdown

The Queensland Government has announced a 3 day lockdown for the people in South East Queensland (Noosa, Sunshine Coast, Ipswich, Logan, Redlands, Brisbane, Gold Coast, Somerset, Scenic Rim, Moreton Bay and Lockyer Valley regions) and Townsville, Magnetic Island, Palm Island regions to come into effect from 6:00pm today Tuesday 29/06/21 to 6:00pm Friday 02/07/21. 

This means that residents in these areas may only leave home for specified reasons -  these include essential work, essential shopping, exercise and care or compassionate reasons, medical reasons (including to get a COVID vaccination). Residents are to work from home unless unable to do so or if they are an essential worker.

28 June 2021 - South East QLD Face Masks and restrictions

The Queensland Government has announced that from 1:00am Tuesday 29 June, face masks will be mandatory in indoor spaces for local government areas (LGAs) of Brisbane, Ipswich, Logan City, Moreton Bay, Redlands, Sunshine Coast, Noosa, Somerset, Lockyer Valley, Scenic Rim and Gold Coast.

27 July 2021 - South Australia Lockdown Lifted

The South Australian Government has confirmed that the lockdown in South Australia will be lifted from 11:59pm, Tuesday 27th July 2021. 

We’re pleased that all 17 BIG W stores in South Australia will re-open to trade safely from Wednesday 28th July 2021, with all COVID Safe measures in place. Masks will be mandatory for our customers as per current government guidelines.
 

21 July 2021 - South Australia Lockdown

The South Australian Government has revised their guidance on essential retail and therefore all 17 of our stores in South Australia will move to online-only trade and temporarily close to the public from today, Wednesday 21st July, until 6.00pm Tuesday, 27th July for all of South Australia. These stores will continue to operate Pick up, Direct to Boot and home delivery services.

 

19 July 2021 - South Australia Lockdown

The SA Government has announced additional restrictions for all of South Australia to come into effect 11:59pm today, Monday 19th July until restrictions have been reviewed by the Government on Friday 23rd July. Rest assured all 17 BIG W stores in SA will remain open for trade in store and online, with all COVID safe measures in place. Masks will be mandatory for both team and customers until further notice.

Western Australia

3 July 2021 - Lockdown lifted for Perth & Peel

The WA Government has confirmed that the lockdown for Perth and Peel will be lifted from 12.01am Saturday, 3rd July with some restrictions remaining. Our team will ensure COVID safe hygiene measures are in place at all times, and that social distancing is maintained throughout our stores;

The Government has also confirmed that masks will continue to be mandatory in Perth and Peel for the next 3 days, until 12.01am Tuesday 6 July. 

Perth and Peel residents who leave the area must also continue to wear a mask.

From Tuesday 6 July to 12.01am Monday 12 July masks will continue to be mandatory in public indoor venues, workplaces, public transport and outdoors where you are unable to physically distance.
 

27 June - Covid Face Mask restrictions

The Western Australia Government has also announced that masks are mandatory indoors, on public transport and outdoor public areas where physical distancing is not possible for the Perth and Peel regions from 12.00pm on Sunday 27th June until 12.00pm 30th June 2021.

Our stores will continue to maintain our usual COVID safe measures and face masks are mandatory in Perth and Peel regions indoors, on public transport and outdoor public areas where physical distancing is not possible. All team members, customers, visitors and contractors at our stores in these areas must wear a mask unless they are exempt.

Australian Capital Territory

9 July 2021 - Covid Face Mask restrictions easing

The ACT Government has today announced that due to the low levels of community transmission of COVID, masks will no longer be required in indoor locations including shopping centres and supermarkets throughout ACT from 11.59pm Friday 09/07/21. 

While not mandatory, we strongly encourage our team and customers to carry a mask with you at all times when you leave home and where you can’t socially distance.
 

27 June 2021 - Covid Face Mask restrictions

The ACT Government has also announced from 11.59pm Sunday 27th June 2021, face masks will be required in certain public settings within the ACT, such as in supermarkets, shopping centres and retail.

Masks are mandatory in the ACT in supermarkets, shopping centres and retail. All team members, customers, visitors and contractors at our stores in these areas must wear a mask unless they are exempt.COVID continues to be unpredictable and impacts all of us. We do hope you and your families stay safe over this uncertain period.

Northern Territory

2 July 2021 - Northern Territory Restrictions easing

We are pleased to advise that BIG W Casuarina and BIG W Palmerston will reopen immediately with COVID safe hygiene measures in place. This follows the Northern Territory Government easing lockdown restrictions for Darwin, Palmerston and the Litchfield local government areas from 1.00pm today, Friday 02/07/21.

The NT Government has also confirmed that masks will continue to be mandatory for people in Darwin, Palmerston and the Litchfield when indoors and outdoors where 1.5m physical distancing cannot be maintained.

29 June 2021 - Northern Territory Lockdown extension

The NT Government has announced an extension of lockdown for the Darwin, Palmerston and Litchfield Council areas, and Wagait and Belyuen Shires until 1pm Friday 02/07/2021.

This means that BIG W Casuarina and BIG W Palmerston will be closed and we will advise our valued customers when they are due to reopen, in line with NT government guidance.

Customers can still shop safely by ordering online home delivery or Pick Up, and if you choose Pick up, your order will be held when our stores reopen. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

27 June 2021 - Northern Territory Lockdown

The Northern Territory Government has announced a 2-day lockdown for the Darwin, Palmerston and the Litchfield local government areas that came into effect from 1.00pm on Sunday 27th June, until 1.00pm Tuesday 29th June.

This means that BIG W Casuarina and BIG W Palmerston will be closed on Monday 28th June and we will advise our valued customers when they are due to reopen, in line with NT government guidance.

Customers can still shop safely by ordering online home delivery or Pick Up, and if you choose Pick up, your order will be held when our stores reopen. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

In store safety

Our team will ensure COVID safe hygiene measures are in place at all times, and that social distancing is maintained throughout our stores:

  • Daily cleaning and disinfecting with hospital grade product is in place in our stores;
  • QR code check-in to support contact tracing;
  • The number of customers in store at any time will be kept at a safe capacity and entry to the store, if store capacity is reached a 1 in, 1 out rule will apply;
  • Sanitiser stations are at the front of all stores and in service areas. Trolley wipes are available to wipe down your trolley;
  • COVID Marshals are in store to maintain COVID safe measures;
  • To keep our community safe, we will be following Government guidelines on face maks requirrements in stores;
  • Team members are instructed not to come to work if they are unwell, or have been around someone who is unwell;
  • Plexiglass screens are in place at our checkouts and service desks, and 1.5-metre social distancing guides are located throughout the stores.

To support contract tracing, we are implementing QR check-ins in our stores acccording to State Govenrment regulations. QR codes are accsssible in multiple parts of our stores to help maintain social distancing. Please follow the government advice to help keep everyone safe.
