In 2002, Big W launched a national campaign called the Big Heart Campaign. Thanks to the generosity of customers and staff at our Big W Stores around Australia and our suppliers, Big Heart has raised millions of dollars for local children’s hospitals, wards and foundations.

In addition to the personal donations, funds are also raised by local BIG W Stores by holding hundreds of sausage sizzles, selling thousands of raffle tickets and running numerous cake stalls, lamington drives, trivia nights, and annual fund-raising balls.

Big W also sells various fundraising merchandise at their checkouts to support National Health Programs such as Jeans for Genes Day and National Breast Cancer day.

100% of funds raised go to children's hospitals, wards and foundations around Australia to fund facilities, equipment and medical equipment to help Australia's sickest children. In 2006 The Big W Big Heart Campaign raised $1,043,948.

The Sydney Children’s Hospital

In 6 years from 1994 BIG W’s NSW Stores raised 1.5million dollars towards the construction of the North Wing of the Sydney children's hospital. Since then the NSW stores have been raising funds for the support of the Specialist Cardiac Services the Sydney Children’s Hospital provides. Big W’s NSW Stores would now like to announce it will be supporting both Cardiology and Comprehensive Outreach Services that help rural children access specialists and clinics closer to their homes. Since 2000 Big W has been a major sponsor of Sydney Children’s Hospital Cardiology Services and raised close to $3 million for the hospital since 1994. 

The Royal Children’s Hospital QLD

Since the fundraising program started 4 years ago, our Big W Stores have raised in excess of $800,000. To date, funds have been put towards the purchase of equipment and for research into children’s breathing problems. This year, our donation of $200,000 will be used in the field of research into childhood obesity

The Royal Children’s Hospital VIC

In Victoria the Associates and Managers of BIG W have been fundraising to help the development of a Children’s Heart Centre that specialises in paediatric cardiology research and clinical services. The Big W Victorian team’s efforts have resulted in over $500,000 being raised in the last 4 years. With the continued assistance and support of the Associates at BIG W the Centre will be able to make an unrivalled contribution to the cardio vascular health of children at an international level.

The Adelaide Women’s and Children’s Hospital

BIG W SA & NT Stores have elected the Bone Growth Foundation as their recipient charity for their fundraising efforts over a five year period commencing 2003. As a result of this staff fundraising Big W will be donating $50,000 plus to the Foundation each year until 2008.

The Princess Margaret Hospital in Perth

In recent years, donations from Big W stores in WA have helped fund a new Gait Treatment Facility at PMH for children with a variety of orthopaedic, cardiopulmonary, neurological and rheumatologic problems including Cerebral Palsy, head injuries and spinal dysfunction.
